Birdie May was born on April 18th, 1896.¹ Birdie May's father was James Wesley Hodges and her mother was Virginia Mary Lanier. Her paternal grandparents were Ashbury W. Hodges and Ruth Hendrix. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Charles Tillman, James Arthur, Carl Lamar, Henry Raiford, Amy Ruth and Ruby Lee.¹
