Gilbert was born about 0984 in Of, Pont-Audemer, Eure, France.1   Gilbert's father was Tourude DeHarcourt and his mother was Wevia (Duceline) DeCrepon.  His maternal grandfather was Herbastus DeCrepon. He had five brothers and a sister, named Humphrey, Herbrand, Richard, Ilbert, Turchetil and Josseline.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.1
