John's baptism took place in Roxbury, Suffolk, MA.1   John's father was John Gorton and his mother was Margaret Wheaton.  His paternal grandparents were Samuel Gorton and Elizabeth. He had a brother and five sisters, named Abraham, Mary, Alice, Elizabeth, Hannah and Sarah.1
