Mary Ann was born about 1846 in Blenheim Twp, Oxford, Ontario, Canada.1   Mary Ann's father was Mathew French and her mother was Elizabeth Wilkinson. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Burnet, William, Mathew, Eliza Jane and Augusta.  She was the second oldest of the six children.1
