John was born on January 9th, 1754.1   John's father was John Fendin and his mother was Elizabeth Thomas.  His paternal grandparents were John Fendin and Martha Waight. He had a brother and five sisters, named William Henry, Anne, Mary, Martha Susan, Betsy and Sarah.1
