Violet's father was Millard H. Dievendorf and her mother was Belle E. McKoon. Her maternal grandparents were John Elias McKoon and Mary Jane Bell. She had seven brothers and three sisters, named Clarence, Alphonso Nelson, Jay C., William, Dilbert, Francis, Richard, Bertha, Lelia and Minnie May.
