William was born in Putnam, Co. NY.1 William's father was Stephen Croft and his mother was Elizabeth Sileck. His paternal grandparents were James Croft and Hester Vought; his maternal grandfather was James Selick. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Stephen, James L, John, Adeline, Esther and Margaret.1 -
