He was a freemna in 1634, a founder of Wethersfield, Conn in 1636, one of the founders of Stamford, Conn in 1640. He was a deputy of the General Court in 1643, one of those who founded the first English settlement of Hempstead, L.I. in 1644, a founder of Newtown, L.I. in 1632, one of the first settlers of Jamaica, L.I. in 1656, a magistrate and representative of the town in Gen Cony at Hartford Conn in 1664
