Nathanie Butterfield was born in Woburn (Massachusetts) **February 14, 1643 (VA) (Gordon)
He married on December 31, 1668 (VR) to Deborah Underwood, daugther of William and Remembrance Underwood. (Gordon) (WHMA, Transc. says: William & Sarah (Pellet) Underwood. Sarah Underwood died November 5, 1684 (Chelmsford, MA, VR)
He was a husbandman and dwelt at Chelmsford, MA taking part of the "Wamesit" lands when they were purchased in 1686. (Gordon) He had received a cash settlement from the town of Chelmsford for losses during King Philip's War, August 1676. He was stationed at the garrison of the West Reg't of Middlesex in the center of town in King William's War of 1690-97.
On January 10, 1709-10 he devided his land in the north part of Chelmsford, MA between his three sons: Benjamin, Samual, and Nathaniel II, giving deeds to each (Mdx. Deeds; XV 159, 160 and XXXVI 593). An entry on the appraisal of the estate of his son, Benjamin, in Dec. 1719 states that he was then living, "76 years of age." (Gordon)
