Bert was born in 1898.1   Bert's father was Leendent Leonard Lane Brandt and her mother was Alice Hocksema.  Her paternal grandparents were Dinginis Brandt and Lena DeWaard. She had three sisters named Lena, Jennie and Dena.  She was the youngest of the four children.1
