Myrtle's father was Clifford Branch and her mother was Gussie Hall. Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Jefferson Hall and Rebecca Crosby. She had five brothers and five sisters, named Curtis, Gene, Jim, Lem, Living, Faye, Living, Mattie Bell, Sadie and Tracy.
