Evan was born about 1372 in Pentre Evan, Pembroke, Wales.1   Evan's father was Llewelyn Bowen and his mother was Nest Vychan.  His paternal grandparents were Owen Bowen and Gwelliant Cantington. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Rhys, Owen, Howel, Phillip, Tevan, Ann, Jane, Annest, Jows and Lucy.  He was the second oldest of the eleven children.1
