John was born about 1674 in Of Raloo, Antrim, Irln.1   John's father was Daniel Blair and his mother was Janet Drummond. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Samson, Samuel, James, Nancy, Phoebe, Jenny and Elizabeth.  He was the third youngest of the eight children.1
