Richard was born in 1628 in Devon, England.1   Richard's father was Richard Bidwell and his mother was Mrs. R. Bidwell.  His paternal grandparents were John Bidwell and Mrs. J. Bidwell. He had three brothers and a sister, named John, Joseph, Samuel and Hannah Anne.  He was the second youngest of the five children.1
