Matthew was born on March 29th, 1819 in Hesse-Cassel, Germany.1   Matthew's mother was Catherine. He had a brother named Adam.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died at the age of 79 on April 23rd, 1898 in Lansing, Ingham Co, Michigan.1
