Jane Beverly Daniel was the first daughter of that marriage. She was a woman of estimable character and marked business ability. On the death of her husband, Thomas Evans in 1845, she took charge of his heavily involved estate and managed it with eminent success. Her sons were educated in the best American Colleges and her unlimited hospitality was a by-word in all the Pedee region, while her piety was of the purest kind. She had a family of thirteen children. Her eldest son Hon Chesley D Evans, was a graduate of the South Carolina College, signing the Ordinance of Secession; Thomas was United States District Attorney for South Carolina in 1844; Nathan George was a graduate of the United States Military Academy and a Brigadier-General in Confederate States America, commanding Confederate forces at the Battle of Ball's Bluff, campaign of 1861-62; William E was a graduate of United States Naval Academy and served under Admiral Porter, later attained rank of Commander, Confederate States Navy, seved under Raphael Semmes, Confederate States ship "Alabama" later commanded Confederate States ship "Georgia" ; A L Evans served throughout the war between the states as Adjutant of Brigade and was later clerk of the State Senate of South Carolina.
