Byrd was born in 1885 in Batesville, Mississippi, USA.1 Byrd's father was David Anderson Kinchloe and her mother was Jennie Barry Armistead. Her maternal grandparents were Isaac Coles Armistead and Nancy(Nannie) Killebrew. She had two brothers and four sisters, named D A, Edwin Irby, Minnie Clare, Estelle, Lillian Rose and Clare. She was the third youngest of the seven children.-
