His paternal grandparents were David Lee Cooper and Elizabeth Orr; his maternal grandfather was Dennis Stiles. He had six brothers and five sisters, named David, George, Jefferson Davis, George F, William H, Frank, Lizzie, Margaret A, Lucy L, Leona W and Infant.
