Katharine was born in 1900. Katharine's father was James Albert Edward Hamilton Duke von Abercorn and her mother was Rosalind Cecilia Caroline Bingham. Her paternal grandparents were James Hamilton Duke von Abercorn and Mary Anna Curzon-Howe; her maternal grandparents were George Bingham Earl von Lucan and Cecilia Catherine Gordon-Lennox. She had a brother and a sister, named James Duke and Cynthia Elinor Beatrix. She was the second oldest of the three children.-
