Sarah M. was born on February 14th, 1856 in Greene Co., IN.1 Sarah M.'s father was Joseph Ahart Newton and her mother was Mary Jane Burks. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Newton and Lydia Back. She had three brothers and three sisters, named John W., Joseph Kelly, James Franklin, Lydia Ann, Mary Eliza and Martha Alice. She was the oldest of the seven children.1 -
