Dorcus' father was Walter Hitt and her mother was Nellie Wisdom. Her maternal grandparents were John Willian Wisdom and Nancy Jane Back. She had six brothers and six sisters, named Oly David, Walter, John, Emmitt Carenza, James Monroe, Raymond, Dorotha, Mable, Sarah Marcella, Ruby Lee, Hester and Nellie Ann.-
