Leona Valitene's father was J. L. Brashears and her mother was Prudie Cooper. Her maternal grandparents were Lyttleton Cooper and Florida Huffaker. She had two brothers and five sisters, named Carl Gilbert, Buran, Callie Earnest, Gussie Gladys, Beatrice Flemming, Mattie Rebecca and Goldie Mae.-
