Van Buren Whipple was born on May 5th, 1845 in Newport, New Hampshire. Van Buren Whipple's father was Americus Vespucius Sargent and his mother was Mary H. Whipple. His paternal grandparents were Enoch Sargent and Lydia Littlehall. He had four brothers named George W., James Wellington, Herbert Eugene and Alberti Whipple. He is the oldest of the five children.-
