Betsey was born on October 11th, 1834 in Norwich, Vermont. Betsey's father was Thomas Sargent and her mother was Lydia Cook. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Sargent and Susan Bartlett. She had seven brothers and five sisters, named William Henry, George Washington, Thomas, John Gove, Charles Alexander, David Pratt, Solon H., Harriet S., Mary Ann, Meribah S., Lydia M. and Ellen W.. She is the sixth oldest of the thirteen children.-
