Silas was born on July 15th, 1827 in Bradford, New Hampshire. Silas' father was David Colby and his mother was Polly Batchelder. His maternal grandparents are David Batchelder and Hannah Kimball. He had five brothers named Harvey, Edwin, Kimball, Martin and John L.. He was the second oldest of the six children. He died at the age of 74 on November 28th, 1901 in Bradford, New Hampshire.-
