Mathilde was born in Karnten, Austria.  Mathilde's father was Engelbert II Von Sponheim-Istrien and her mother was Uta von Passau.  Her paternal grandparents were Siegbert II Saargau and FNU Von Frankenburg; her maternal grandparents were Ulric "The Rich" Putten and Adelaide Von Frantenhausen. She had a brother and a sister, named Hermann II and Ida. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Siegbert III and Sophie Zu.  She died on December 13th, 1160 in Fontevrault l'Abbey, Maine-et-Loire, France.


Mathilde's family with Theobald IV de Navarre

‌Mathilde and Theobald IV were married in a religious ceremony in Blois, Loir-et-Cher, France.  They had four sons and five daughters, named Theobald V, Henri I, Etienne I, William of, Marie, Elizabeth, Agnes De Ligny, Adele and Isabelle.
