Laurence Oliphant 
Laurence was born about 1504 in Scotland. Laurence's father was Colin Oliphant and his mother was Elizabeth Keith. His paternal grandparents were John Oliphant and Elizabeth Campbell; his maternal grandparents were William III Keith and Elizabeth Gordon. He had a half-brother named Henry. He died on March 29th, 1566 in Aldwick, Caithness, Scotland.General Notes

III. 3. LAURENCE OLIPHANT, LORD OLIPHANT [SCT], grandson and heir, being son and heir of Colin, MASTER OF OLIPHANT, and Elizabeth, his wife, came of age between 10 July 1525 and 30 March 1526. He bought the vast estates in Caithness inherited by his cousin, Andrew Oliphant, of which he had charter 30 March 1526. He sat in Parliament [SCT] from 15 November 1526 to 15 December 1543, and
voted for Arran as Regent. He was taken prisoner 25 November 1542 at the rout of Solway Moss, his ransom being fixed in July following at 800 marks sterling. In 1543 he was a Commissioner of justiciary. He promised his support to Huntly and the Congregation against the Queen Regent in February 1559/60, but he did not sit in the Reforming Parliament in the following August. He married, before 10 July 1525, Margaret, widow of Robert BRUCE of Auchinbowie, a burgess of Stirling in 1506 and 1508, and 2nd daughter of Sir James SANDILANDS, of Calder, by his 2nd wife, Margaret (later COUNTESS OF ERROLL), daughter of Andrew KER of Altonburn. He died 29 March 1566, at Aldwick, co. Caithness. [CP 10:52]
