Her paternal grandparents were John Arledge and Virginia Annie Hamilton; her maternal grandparents were Francis Cheney and Sarah Aurick. She had a brother and eight sisters, named Barbary York, Joseph, Elizabeth Hannah, Caroline Julian, Susanna Gwen, Lydia, Margaret, Mary and Rebecca. She had three half-brothers and eight half-sisters, named John, Joseph, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Catherine, Susannah, Barbara, Lidy, Margaret, Mary and Rebecca.
