"Robert de Tibetot, who, in the 50th Henry III [1266], was made governor of the castle of Porchester, and having attended Prince Edward to the Holy Land, was high in favour after he had ascended the throne as Edward I, being then constituted governor of Nottingham Castle, justice of South Wales, and governor of the castles of Carmarthen and Cardigan. In the 13th of the same reign [1285], he had a grant from John, the son of Gerard de Rodes, to himself, his wife, and his son, in fee, of the manors of Langar and Berneston, in Nottinghamshire. In the 20th [1292], being then the king`s lieutenant for Wales, he fought and defeated Rees ap Meredeth in a great battle wherein 4,000 Welshmen were slain and Rees, himself having been made prisoner, was conveyed to York and there executed. Robert de Tibetot was subsequently in the wars of Gascony and Scotland. He m. Eve, dau. (or granddau.) of Pain de Chaworth, and had issue, Pain, his successor, Hawyse, and Eve. Robert d. in the 26th Edward I [1298] and was s. by his son, Pain de Tibetot.
