Dicy was born on December 1st, 1832 in Hutton, Coles Co., IL. Dicy's father was Vincent Strader and her mother was Patience Stewart. Her paternal grandparents were Francis+ Strader and Susannah+ Easter; her maternal grandparents were William H+ Stewart and Dicy+ Haynes. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Andrew Ambrose, Jesse, John S., Lucinda, Suzannah, Angelina, Elizabeth Jane and Emeline. She was the oldest of the nine children.
