Peter actually had two wives at one time, according to the history passed down by descendants of George Jacob and Cornblossom. His other wife was Jane Stevenson, a white woman, who married Peter "Little Jake" Troxell during the early 1800`s (although Jane was apparently never able to prove the marriage for purposes of claim.) Jane had run off from the white settlement to join Cornblossom and the Cherokee nation. The Franklinite militiamen, apparently headed by a Hiram "Big Tooth" Gregory who served under John Sevier (first governor of Tennessee), were already stirred in their hatred for the Cherokee, and Jane`s defection fueled that flame.. After the massacre at Ywahoo Falls in 1810, Jane Stevenson "whether forcibly or willingly, took the children of her husband Peter and his other wife Standing Fern into survival " by marrying the son of Hiram "Big Tooth" Gregory (also named Hiram) who was a "fire and brimstone mountain preacher."
