Thomas was born in 1600 in Woolaston, Gloucester, England. Thomas' father was Thomas+ Roberts and his mother was Frances+ James. His paternal grandparents were Walter+ Roberts and Frances+ Maynard; his maternal grandparents are Martin+ James and Nm+ X. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Walter, John, William, Elizabeth and Anne+. He was the third youngest of the six children.
