"Note: He proffered 300 marks in 1194 to have the King's goodwill. He was keeper of Gloucester Castle circa 1197, and a commissioner to assess tallage in Glos and Bristol, 1199; keeper of the Honor of Dunster, Easter 1199 to Easter 1201. In 1201 he paid 24 marks on 7 fees of the Honor of Gloucester for his scutage and for his exemption from serving for them overseas. He sided with the Barons against King John, and his estates and his son's, amounting together in value to £40 a year, were confiscated before 24 October 1215; but were restored 18 August 1216. He was sometime steward of Gilbert, Earl of Gloucester (1217-30). [Complete Peerage X:671-2, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]"
