His paternal grandparents were Guillaume VIII D'+ Aquitaine and Hildegarde De+ Bourgogne; his maternal grandparents were Guillaume IV De+ Toulouse and Emma De+ Mortaigne. He had a brother and two sisters, named Guillaume X D'+, Agnes D'+ and Adelheid Adelle D'. He was the second youngest of the four children. He had a half-brother named Guillaume I De+.
