John was born about 1394 in Calderwood, East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, Scotland. John's father was Herbert+ Maxwell and his mother is Katherine+ Stewart. His paternal grandfather was Robert+ Maxwell and his paternal grandmother is Janet+ Forrester; his maternal grandparents are John+ Stewart and Alicia+ Mure. He had a brother and a sister, named Herbert+ and Janet. He was the youngest of the three children. He died on July 22nd, 1484.General Notes
