Samuel Silas Jordan 
Samuel Silas was born in 1578 in Lynn or Melcome, Devonshire, England. Samuel Silas' father is Robert+ Jordan and his mother is Sarah+ WInter. His paternal grandparents are Thomas+ Jordaine and Agnes+ Burte; his maternal grandfather is John+ Winter. He had a sister named Hannah. He was the older of the two children. He died at the age of 45 in April 1623 in Beggars Bush at "Jordans Journey", Nansemond Co., VA.General Notes
"Samuel Jordan (1578-1623), the first of the Jordans to come to America, left Plymouth, England on June 18, 1609 and sailed for Jamestown with the interim governor, Sir Thomas West. They sailed on the Seaventure under the command of Sir George Somers. Somers flotilla encountered a severe storm near the Bermudas, which left the Seaventure unseaworthy. The other ships continued on their way to Jamestown. The passengers of the Seaventure, including Governor West, Samuel Jordan, and the flotilla commander, Sir George Somers, decided to stay in Bermuda and build two new ships, instead of attempting to repair the Seaventure, in order to carry additional food and supplies the island provided. Samuel Jordan was elected to keep the day-to-day journal because he was well educated.
Samuel Jordan was a member of the first house of Burgess and a representative of St. James City, which was convened in 1619 by George Yeardly, Governor and Captain general of Virginia. This was the first legislative body to convene in America.
Samuel and Cicely received land grants for being "ancient planters". On one of the grants on the south side of the James River, Samual built a very large plantation called "Jordon's Journey", where he and his family survived the Indian Massacre of 1622, where one-third of the colony was killed, but he died in 1623.'
