Thomas was born in 1523 in Woodhouse, Yorkshire, England. Thomas' father was John+ Hanson and his mother is Agnes+ Savile. His paternal grandparents are John+ Hanson and Catherine+ Brooke; his maternal grandparents are Nicholas+ Savile and Margaret+ Wilkinson. He had four brothers and a sister, named John, Edward+, Robert, Arthur and Elizabeth. He was the third oldest of the six children. He had a half-sister named Margaret+.
