All Greenwood families in America are believed to trace back to the vicinity of Heptonstall in the West Riding of Yorkshire, where there exists a mile and a half from that village a manor house built by Wyomarus de Greenwode de Greenwode-Leghe or one of his immediate descendants. He was a caterer to the mother of King Henry II (1154-1189). 19 generations from Wyomarus to William Greenwood of London have been researched by Frederick Greenwood and Kenneth P. Darling.
