Thomas+ was born about 1490 in Rudgwick, Sussex, England. Thomas+'s father was Robert+ Clayton and his mother is Jane+ Farrington. His paternal grandfather was Thomas De+ Clayton. He was an only child. He died on October 5th, 1557 in Chichester, Sussex, England.General Notes
"According to `Ancestry of Allen Grinnel Cleaver and Martha Irene Jessup` compiled by William Jessup Cleaver, Thomas Clayton made a will in Rudgwyck Parish, Sussex County, England 4 July 1557 which was proved according to Consistory Court Wills Register 1553-1571, West Sussex Record Office. In it he names a wife, Margaret and a son John, a daughter Alice and a daughter who had married .. Nalovite? (as well as could be ascertained.) The record is very faded. More children may have been mentioned. The wording of the will suggested to the transcriber that Thomas was retaining his Roman Catholic faith in spite of Henry VIII and the Reformation Parliament.
