Jean was born on September 5th, 1781 in St. Nicholas, Aberdeen, Scotland. Jean's father is James Chalmers and her mother was Margaret Douglas. Her paternal grandparents are James Chalmers and Susannah Trail; her maternal grandparents are David Douglas and Catherine Forbes. She was an only child.
