Susan was born about 1817 in MD. Susan's father was Jacob+ Baumgardner and her mother was Magdalena+ Kuntz. Her paternal grandparents were Jacob+ Baumgardner and Mary Magdalene+ Kraft; her maternal grandparents were Paul+ Kuntz and Mary Ann+ X. She had two brothers and five sisters, named James Aloysius, William Henry, Margaret, Lydia Ann+, Mary Louise, Ann Mary and Julia Frances. She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.
