William, known as "the Englishman", was born about 1175 in Tamworth Castle, Warwick, England.  "the Englishman"'s father was Robert de Harcourt and his mother was Isabel de Camville.  His paternal grandfather was Ivo de Harcourt and his paternal grandmother is Agnes Alive de Braose; his maternal grandparents were Richard de Camville and Milicent de Stanton de Rethel. He had a sister named Alice.  He was the older of the two children.  He died on April 6th, 1223.

‌"the Englishman" and Alice were married in a religious ceremony about 1202.  They had a son named Richard.
