Gilbert was born in Coughton, Warwickshire, England.  Gilbert's father is Adam le Franceys of Meaburn.  His paternal grandfather is John le Franceys of Meaburn.  He was an only child.  He died in 1278 in Nether Haddon, Bakewell, Derbyshire, England.
