Berenthobald IV was born about 0590.  Berenthobald IV's father was Berthold d'Ascanie.  His paternal grandfather was Berenthobald II d'Ascanie and his paternal grandmother is de Saxe. He had a brother named Berenger II.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died in 0670.

He had a biological son named Aribert.
