Johann Nicholas was born in 1673 in Darmstadt, Germany. Johann Nicholas' father was Johann Abraham Rausch and his mother was Maria Margaretha Faber. His paternal grandparents were Johann Wilhelm Rausch and Anna Hammerin; his maternal grandfather is Johann Nickolas Faber. He was an only child.
