Hugh's father was Count Hugh ("le Mefiant") III of Tours & Upper Alsace and his mother was Lady Aba (Bava) de Morvois of Tours. His paternal grandfather was Count Luitfride d'Alsace II and his paternal grandmother is Hiltrude; his maternal grandparents are Count Girard de Paris I and Princess Rotrou of Austrasia. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Luitfried, Liutfried, Hugh, Ermengarde, Bertha and Adelheid. He died about 0853.-
