Halfdan, known as "the Old", was born about 0450 in Ringerike, Buskerud, Norway.  "the Old"'s father is King Hring Raumsson and his mother is Vifilsdatter.  His paternal grandparents are Raum ("the Old") Norsson and Hildur Gudraudsdatter; his maternal grandfather is King Vifil of Norway.  He is an only child.

‌"the Old" and Almveigu were married in a religious ceremony about 0470 in Ringerike, Buskerud, Norway.  They have four sons named Skelfi, Lofdi, Hildi and Budli.
