Ernst was born about 0825.  Ernst's father was Margrave Ernst von Nordgau I of Nordmark and his mother is Fredeburg von Frommen.  His maternal grandfather is Louis von Frommen. He had a brother named Sieghard.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died about 0889.
