His paternal grandfather was Lord Bruno Engern I of Brunisberge-by-Hoxter and his paternal grandmother is de Asseburg; his maternal grandfather was King Wittekind of the Saxons and his maternal grandmother is Geva Eyesteinsdottir. He was an only child. He died at the age of 57 in 0843.-
