George was born about 1486 in Clapham, Sussex, England. George's father was John Shelley and his mother was Elizabeth Michelgrove. His paternal grandparents are John Shelley and Beatrice Hawkwood; his maternal grandparents are John Michelgrove and Mary Sidney.
